About

BIO

Alex Meeth (b. 1999) is a multidisciplinary artist from Dousman, Wisconsin, and a 2022 graduate of the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, where he received the Arthur B. Whitney Award for Highest Academic Rank. He began taking dance classes at the age of 13— studying Vaganova ballet technique under the direction of Eddy Bray— and later graduated from the Kettle Moraine School for Arts and Performance with an emphasis in theater.

This early, multifaceted arts training ultimately led him to pursue a deeper and more diverse understanding of dance at the Boston Conservatory, where he rigorously studied ballet, various modern techniques (such as Horton, Limón, Countertechnique, Release), jazz, swing, composition, and contact improvisation. Over the course of his studies, Alex choreographed for multiple dance concerts and performed works by many influential artists, including Mark Morris, Catherine Coury, José Limón, Daniel Pelzig, Laila Franklin, Bradley Shelver, and Juel D. Lane.

He pursued further training from summer intensives at Hubbard Street Dance ChicagoMark Morris Dance Group, and as a YATP performer with the Boston Early Music Festival.

In the past two years, Alex has performed with Hedwig DancesMetropolitan OperaDance Heginbotham (with Isaac Mizrahi at the Guggenheim Museum); Lyric Opera of Chicago; and Mark Morris Dance Group, where he is a current company member.

DANCE

ARTISTIC MODALITIES

PERFORMANCE

As a dancer, I am interested in probing our deepest and oldest form of artistic expression for new insights. I firmly believe we know more than we can name— we carry knowledge in our bodies, and there is something profoundly emotional and freeing in this discovery. Through the many languages of movement, I aim to share stories and shape the collectiveness of gathering.

CHOREOGRAPHY

As a choreographer, I am interested in how to craft and share stories. No matter how abstract a narrative, we learn and make sense of the world by shaping it into stories. As gravity is to the very shape of our universe, art is to the very shape of our humanity. What we can imagine and symbolize brings us closer— it is our collective consciousness and special relativity.

TEACHING / COACHING

As a teacher, I am interested in cultivating an open, collaborative, and non-judgmental space for mutual learning. My classes strive to engage every student, strengthen the mind/body connection, discover joy in movement, and encourage a culture of communal care that celebrates our differences, versus erasing them.
